Most Ads Suck (Attention Alchemy)

In a world where attention is now everything.
The difference between poor and rich.
Winning and losing.
A life worth living, or a life of perma-fail.
As bleak as that sounds - the relieving truth is:
You don’t need the attention of everybody to make good money in your business.
You don’t actually need that many eyeballs at all to do more than well.
So don’t worry, no need to become an ‘influencer’ documenting every aspect of themselves for others to use as their entertainment.
What you need is attention from the RIGHT people.
People that want and need what you sell, even if they don’t know they actually do yet.
That’s what good marketing is all about. That, and actually converting or setting up the process of turning this attention into cold hard cash.
And most local businesses are dealing with 101 things at a time. So often, marketing takes a back seat.
Even when they KNOW it’s extremely important…
And they KNOW it’s the difference between thriving and "doing fine".
Which is why when I scroll through Facebook/Instagram and I see local businesses trying to advertise and sell their service…
I notice how EASY it is for you to win amongst your local market with just a little bit of dialling in your marketing systems and skills…
What’s so bad about these ads you’re wondering?
Going over the list would be a long read, so I’ll boil it down.
It’s simply a fundamental lack of understanding of something called buying behaviour.
That’s to say, the way people actually go about buying things.
Whatever it is you sell - roofing, exterior cleaning, furniture, shoes, paintball etc.
They all have steps between going from unaware of you as a business, all the way to buying what you sell.
Depending on your business, those steps will vary of course.
But your ads/marketing ALWAYS need to have the understanding of three things if you want to make more money than you spend:
What kind of customer you are talking to
Where they’re at in the ‘funnel’
How to get them to the next step towards buying
Not an ad that builds “brand awareness”…
Or an ad that attempts to sell way too early…
Or an ad that’s just entertaining and then they comment "great ad hahaha" and then scroll off without even thinking about buying whatever you sell…
None of that matters.
What matters is:
Does this actually move the prospect closer to buying?
If yes, great. Keep doing that.
If no? You’re burning money.
If you’re not sure? I’ll tell you.
